Red face J CLass Waitlist - How Long?

Hi,

I'm booked on QF11 on Sunday SYD-LAX. Currently waitlisted for J. Anyone tell me where I can get access to see how many punters on the list ahead of me or some nice person out there with the royal access let me know.
Cheers,
Paul G

Sometimes the QF res agents will let you know, or maybe just something along the lines of "you should be ok" or "you don't stand a chance". I am assuming you are waitlisted for a full J fare and the cabin is currently sold out. You could get some idea of possibilitiy by looking at the F availability. Some of the J pax may be waitlisted for upgrades into Z and that can free some J about 3 days out.

Another thing to check (but might be hard to find now) the seatmap to see if it is a Skybed config. If it is, then there are only 50 J seats and that could mean a long waitlist for a Sunday QF11. Sundays are always busy with people getting to the US for the beginning of the work week.

If you mean you are waitlisted for an upgrade into business class (U) then you might see some movement on Friday. But note my comment above regarding Sunday flights to the USA.

If you're waitlisted in J, you'll almost certainly get on, since there's availability in A and F, and they'll roll WPs and CLs from bus to first to take a full J pax. If you're waitlisted in D (as happened to a few from our company recently) your only certainty of getting on is if you are a WP or CL.

So Paul4471, as you are only a Bronze FF (from his profile, Willyroo ), your chances of securing an upgrade via this option is slim...

Wow! I never knew it can be this full at this time of the year!!

I am afraid you chance = SLIM but not impossible.
As F=3 and assume QF don't oversell F Class, then that means they can only opup 3 pax. Also since even J = 0 that means they have oversold J already and most likely will not take anymore (do they allow you to WL?)

Wow the Skybed effect is really apparent (given Economy is still WIDE OPEN!) (well I guess when you compare it with UA it is pretty much a no brainer!)

Also most likely you will end up with the dreaded MIDDLE seat in J Class!!!

Its always busy in F and J on Sundays heading to LAX. That is the day all the business travelers want to go in order to get Monday morning start. Holiday/leisure travelers tend to go Saturdays (first day of vacation to maximise time away) or Monday (following weekend sporting or other commitments).

OIC! That is why they have QF107 on Sunday instead of Saturday!

I always travel on Friday or Saturday so didn't notice this.

That be the case for sure. I often have to be in the USA for Monday starts and regularly have trouble getting onto my first choice Sunday flight since my bookings are always last minute. Its quite a pain really.

It is also quite possible that QF11 that day is Skybed equipped, which may well be why the OP is wanting that particular flight. If that is the case, then there may well be a long waitlist of WP's who also know that same information but may also hold confirmed reservations for QF107.

Thanks for advice so far

Fare basis is J2JRT. I assume this is J class. My profile is out of date - I'm actually silver and 15 sc's short of gold which interestingly I will get on the PER-SYD leg of the same trip. My QF points seem to post almost instantly these days, maybe being gold by the time I get to the QP in Sydney and being on a J basis will help?
Thanks for all the info so far. Any other tips to pull the waitlist off? I'd be happy to take one of the F seats if they needed me to

Yep J2JRT = full published fare in Business. = J Class

Hope you get on the flight you want (especially on Skybeds, those Dreamtime seats are dreadful on the SYD-LAX run - which I did before!)

Just out of curioisty? Are you on a really tight schedule?
Because judging by your fare basis, yout ticket should be endorseable or refundable?? If so? Why not try CX? Much better in my opinion and cost less! Also for the price you are paying, you can almost get a F Class ticket all the way to LAX (SYD-HKG-LAX)

It actually connects PERFECTLLY in HKG (CX110 SYD-HKG CX882 HKG-LAX)
Also you get more miles!!!
However once you tried CX I doubt you want to revert back to QF! hahahah Well Maybe not.. But CX is really good!

That's shed alot of light for me on the sometimes dark art of QF UG waitlists. So is 3 days out the rule of thumb for J to Z?

Nothing is 100% til those doors are closed and you hear the air vents turn on

*recalls a story about a certain CL member....*
