High Winds Affecting Operations Again

Is high winds a new excuse that Australian domestic airlines are using for delays. I have not noticed this excuse being used very often until the last 12-18 months and now it seems “normal” weather is being used to blame flight delays.

Are high winds any different to what they were years ago or are We now just getting reasons circulated for network wide delays.

Perhaps it is all climate change or climate change awareness as I believe the climate has changed for millenia but some say it is accelerating

Qantas gets rid of portion control butter in its lounges and introduces plastic mini bottles of water in domestic J instead of service with a reusable glass vessel.

Anyway what is with all the occurrences of wind delays.....

Have got statistical verifiable evidence of that: times & dates?

https://www.flightstats.com/v2/airport-conditions/SYD
DELAY STATUS MODERATE and increasing
https://www.flightstats.com/v2/airport-conditions/mel
DELAY STATUS LOW and decreasing
Stronger than average winds where I am in Melbourne ~25km from airport

It is quite windy here today - can believe that it could be impacting flight departures/arrivals - wouldn't the delays be more a factor of the airport restricting flights rather than the airline just using it as an excuse

Strong winds in New South Wales and SE Queensland. Reports of delays up to two hours out of Brisbane. Last night flights from Melbourne north were delayed by storms and wind in Sydney and Brisbane. I would prefer Qantas highlight this on their website, as they do.

63kmh/h gusts at Observatory Hill, and very windy here in Paddo. I can imagine it's having an effect. Also wind is from the WNW, so they're down to one runway.

That’s what it’s all about when the cross winds are too much for the SYD 16/34 runways.

My friends and I in Canberra have been discussing how windy it has been here...for weeks. Certainly windier more often lately....and stronger winds at that.

Perhaps they are just getting better at communicating disruptions.
