No penalty for mistake bookings

I just made an award booking and it came back for a totally wrong date to what I “thought” I booked. Probably my mistake - although I’d like to blame the computer. Rang QF and explained the issue that I’d like to cancel. I was pleasantly surprised when told of the 24 hour “no penalty” policy for altering / cancelling mistake bookings. This seems new. If so, its an enhancement that I like.

Qantas has a documented policy that mistakes can be fixed on same calendar day of making the booking without penalty. It is not a 24 hour rule

See https://www.qantas.com/au/en/manage-...o-mistake.html

Or if making late at night, when perhaps more likely to make a mistake, then wait until after midnight

i once booked an economy award... afterwards on same day business opened up... called up and said "i wrongly booked economy and i wanted business" no question asked and they reissued on business without any penalty.

and that was an award on Japan airlines so policy applies to partners too

Yes it is a sensible policy and one I have used a few weeks ago when I somehow got my months and my dates wrong, but at least it was the correct day of the week....

Been around for years but as above note it's same day. Lots of people get caught up thinking it's 24 hours.

Its completely new to me inspite of having a 6 digit QF FF number. Perhaps I haven't stuffed up quite like this before!

If by any chance it was a flight to the US, then you have 24 hours to cancel per US regulations.

If purchased on the US site for a flight from US, indeed the DOT rule applies - for originations outside the US, my recollection is that it does not apply for online purchases
