Qantaslink Baggage Allowance to MEL-HBA

Hi, I am booked to fly MEL - HBA on Qantaslink, the fare conditions on my ticket in relation to baggage allowance seem confused. They state that all passengers on Qantaslink can check in 1x16kg but then they also state, a few lines before, that all Qantas economy passengers except those on Qantaslink to and from Lord Howe Island can take 1x23kg. As a OW emerald I presumable get extra if the second statement is correct but not if it's the first.

Any advice as to which conditions will apply or do I call Qantas and can I rely on anything Qantas tell me? Flights are QF1508/1509

Thanks

QF has baggage calculator on their website: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/travel-info/baggage.html
This is what's on my recent ticket:

What an amazingly convoluted set of bag rules! I just wonder whether anyone at QF has actually tried to work out some real world scenarios to figure out what is allowed. No wonder the OP has asked for help.

And by looking at the EK provisions, you'd think that QF is only in an alliance with EK and nothing else - such as OW. Or is this just in anticipation of the next quiet announcement about severing OW links?

That highlighted one needs a full stop after "excludes QantasLink". As I think the second line starting with a capital indicates a new sentence/clause. Else why have a separate item for Qantas Link?

So, this is from the calculator page (https://www.qantas.com/au/en/travel-info/baggage.html) that I've recommended above:

Thanks for the advice! Am I right then that the line "Qantaslink Services All Customers 1 piece at 16kg" would never apply to any Qantaslink flights? Makes you wonder why it's in there at all.

Tried finding my booking class as well, seems pretty much impossible too...

I've used the calculator and I am still slightly in the dark. It says 1 x23kg and that it includes any additional bags due to QF status. As a OW Emerald do I get a second bag at 23kg or not?

Spoken to Qantas and they have confirmed 2 x 23KG as a OW Emerald! Forgot to ask about booking codes, next time maybe...

Thanks again for the help.

Never thought I'd say it but QF make BA look good when it comes to knowing your baggage allowance and booking code!! Maybe BA aren't quite as bad as I think they are, at least not at everything anyway!

Perhaps QF could edit their literature (as per Post #2) to add QF status and the equivalent OW status levels as well. For example, Platinum/Platinum One and OW Emerald etc.

Its not for QantasLink in total, but QantasLink services to/from Lord Howe Island. The 14kg limit to Lord Howe is less than the usual 23kg

The Lord Howe Island limit is 1x14KG there appear to be no flights tat 1x16KG would apply to.

Well, the table in my post #2, suggests that it is only 14kg to Lord Howe, and 16kg on other Qantas Link services and that's why OP was confused...

Being HBA based, I am positive that MEL-HBA is serviced by Qantas Link 717s and that the basic allowance is 23kg. Don't really know what they mean by those 16kg in the document. Perhaps something that should have been removed ages ago?

Looking at https://www.qantas.com/travel/airlin...mestic-flights
it seems to indicate that the Q400 are limited to one checked at 23kg regardless of status

Looking at http://www.qantas.com/travel/airline...mestic-flights , it states that 1 piece max 23Kg is the allowance for Dash 8 services and 1 piece max 23Kg if not a Dash 8 service leading to a ticketed allowance of 1 piece max 23 Kg

An Emerald tier BA FF member will be entitled to 1 extra piece of max 23Kg , giving a total allowance of 2 x 23Kg

The details in the tables regarding status allowances are specifically relating to QF status
