Quick Baggage Question

Have just booked my first Qantas flights since arriving in Aus and got a quick question.

Will be flying from Hobart to Melbourne then onto Perth. The flights are on separate bookings, the HBA-MEL in economy paid in cash, MEL-PER in business via a BA redemption both on the same day.

Question is can I use the business baggage allowance for the HBA-MEL flight, as it is a Qantaslink (QF1502) flight does this still come under OneWorld rules?

What oneworld rule? The only one that would apply is the Emerald extra baggage allowance.

No. The luggage allowance for the 2 flights are completely separate

You can purchase an extra bag to bring the economy allowance up to 2 bags ( same as business ) at $30 is purchased in advance or $40 at the airport

Just be aware that the weight limit per bag is 23Kg in economy rather than the 32Kg that business allows.

OneWorld rule that uses the significant flight as the baggage allowance, I used it when emigrating and got my 3x32kg hold luggage per person in Y from SIN-PER after flying from the UK with BA. The flights then were redemption on BA UK-SIN then paid on QF SIN-PER

You're on two separate bookings. AFAIK, there's no rule (oneworld or otherwise) that carries over the higher baggage allowance to the flight on the other ticket.

If you got lucky last time, you got lucky.

I've found QF are usually pretty forgiving if you're connecting Intl to Domestic with excess baggage, but rules wise, they are well within their rights to charge, and I wouldn't depend on them not doing so.

Just an update, I got an email back from Qantas this morning stating that if I showed my MEL-PER e-ticket during check-in at HBA then I will be able to check bags right through to PER and receive the business baggage allowance for all flights.

I have asked for written confirmation of this in case the HBA check-in desk disagree and don't accept the email printout.
