ALL QF's 330's to get lay flight Business seating - Including Domestic

Qantas Previews New A330 and B717 interiors

Interesting - ALL 30 330's will get this - both those generally used for Domestic and those for international.

Obviously the Coast-to-Coast competition with VA is hotting up!

So both those generally used for Domestic and those for international.

Looks pretty swish!

I found this bit interesting:

"Uniquely, the seats can be in recline position for take off and landing,
maximising the opportunity for rest."

Thai-Kiwi Aug 28, 2013 8:48 pm

Being able to sit in the reclined position for takeoff is the case for the Air NZ 772/77W biz seats as well.

I wonder if the 1-2-1 conguration will mean fewer biz seats?

wandering_fred Aug 28, 2013 9:15 pm

Alas, us self-funded retirees would much rather QF put Y+ on their A330s - especially the ones used for red-eyes to/from SE Asia.

Happy wandering

Fred

Thai-Kiwi Aug 29, 2013 12:21 am

I can't disagree Fred......

Himeno Aug 29, 2013 1:11 am

It says from end of next year. By then QF would have most (all?) of the 330s currently with JQ. Are those included in the count?
With these "Skybed Mk3", are we seeing what will be on the next 380 refresh/delivery?

You would probably find on the International Config, it will be around the same. As the seats are likely to be staggered, eg 1A seat next to the Window table next to the aisle, 2A seat next to the aisle table next to the window.

nonce Aug 29, 2013 2:16 am

Considering that these aircraft will be used on Asia flights it is disappointing no Y+. Given the low count of Dom 330 aircraft I wonder why QF doesn't just reconfig every plane to a common fitout and just put one or two rows of Y+ in using the old J seats (since they are essentially the same). QF could easily sell Y+ on PER transcon flights.

I think offering Y+ would perhaps cannibalize J cabin sales into PER given how short the flight is. I think a better option would be to perhaps allocate the cabin on domestic flights to P1/WP and fully flexible fares.

patrickk Sep 1, 2013 12:10 am

I think having all 30 with the same config means they can use them on both international and domestic and so get a much higher utilisation rate. I expect they will do this with the 789s as well.

Genius1 Sep 1, 2013 1:06 pm

This looks very impressive indeed - and I would love the product to roll out across more international aircraft eventually!

redslert Sep 2, 2013 7:14 pm

Are these angled or 180degrees?

I think it depends on how you want to interpret the words "a fully lie-flat bed" which appear in the product description! ;)

I hope the seats are fabric and not leather (or synthetic "leather").

djsflynn Oct 20, 2014 7:32 pm

FYI: A330 seat count drops to 28 across domestic & international configs.

Lots of changes since the initial design.

As for the leather v fabric.

The top-picture looks all leather, the second picture only the headrest looks like leather.

Sadly (for me - I prefer cloth), the seats on display in SYD T3 today apear to be leather. I would assume the display matches the actual :(

Do I spy a new look Kate/Jack Spade kit?

Agree on the fabric preference to leather so that would be a shame.

Wish they had the option of dropping the wall between seats for those rare times I'm travelling with someone or  want to visit with the person beside me.

Totally agree as someone who usually travels with my other half, but understand why they have done it also. The other option would have been a couple of honeymoon seats in the centre.

Second row looks different from first one. The seats seams to be closer and no divider.

Both rolls have dividers, its just on the the other side of the console, you can faintly see the top of it in the picture.

The divider is there - the seats are staggered/ or offset every other row.
Thus there will be a true window seat, and then the row behind it will have the console next to the window.

Is there a rollout schedule? Have a trip planned on QF in June '15 (HKG-BNE-MEL) and am hoping it'll be available.

moa999 Nov 3, 2014 4:12 pm

The only schedule information published is Domestic from Dec 2014, and International from early 2015.

Whilst I would expect HKG and SIN to be the more likely to have the new product, I doubt enough planes will be done by Jun-15 to guarantee it on the routes (particularly HKG-BNE)

I'd have 100 % absolute certainty that you won't find it on HKG-BME.... :)

BadgerBoi Nov 3, 2014 7:37 pm

I have trips between SYD and BKK in March and May next year. I'm feeling safe in the knowledge that although the ticket says Qantas the passengers will mostly be supplied by Air Bogan and I'll be sitting in old J seats

So long as TG keep their old J seats on that run , then there's little reason for QF to prioritise BKK.

It's also pretty much a leisure run, no matter what TG did those QF flights would still be full.

Sadly for me it's a ticket on AY so it's not even my choice, but I get to travel to Europe from BKK on Finnair which I love, so it's all good in the end.

The seat maps for the reconfigured A330s are out. The first services are A332 on 22-Dec and A333 on 14-Jan...

More details in the article...

So I guess little to no chance that I'll get to experience the new J seat in February. Am booked on QF 23 SYD-BKK on February 7, 15. Any one want to give me some hope !?!?!?

Cheers from Brisbane,

Well EF seatmap shows the usual 333 config, but then again, they don't show (and neither does QF) the changed seatmap for the alleged inaugural flights for the 332/333's as stated - it could be they're not loaded, or QF is waiting till they are more sure.

I guess your hope is that a sub can happen. I suspect prior to Feb they may only convert 1 or 2 more shells at most, so your changes ARE slim, but like the elusive op up, you never know. Good luck!

shuuy Nov 25, 2014 3:22 pm

First routes from the article:

The first flights will be QF411 between Sydney and Melbourne, followed by QF475 and QF476 on trans-Continental Melbourne-Perth-Melbourne services. The aircraft will fly a similar pattern throughout that week.
The A330-300 with the new cabin is scheduled to enter service on 14 January 2015. Its first two flights are QF415 and QF426 on the Sydney – Melbourne – Sydney sector. These schedules are subject to change at any time and are not guaranteed by the airline.
Services to Asia and Hawaii are planned from 2015 with these reconfigured aircraft.

flylonghaul Dec 9, 2014 4:18 pm

According to ABT, QANTAS has revealed the inaugural routes for the new product, which somewhat conflict with previous information.
Domestic will get the SYD-PER-SYD rotation (no flight numbers mentioned) while Intl will get the new product on the QF35/36

Link to article

If this turns out to be the final plan, then this is great news for MEL with the upgraded product.
Also great for my own travel plans as I will be on QF35 in March after the F1, so the new product will be greatly appreciated :D

moa999 Dec 9, 2014 4:35 pm

Also some suggestion from the AFF thread that

Intl aircraft will be cloth seats, with leather headrest (think all the 300s)
Dom aircraft will be all leather seat (think all the 200s)
