Are there *that* many Australians flying to Las Vegas? And just to Las Vegas, not visiting Las Vegas as part of a general US west coast trip?

And of these folks, how many are willing to put up with LCC-quality hard and soft product for a 14-hour flight just to save a few bucks and avoid a stopover?

These folks do exist, but can you consistently fill a 787 with them every day?

My idea, if I were running the airline, would be to cozy up to airlines on the far side of the Pacific, and then sell HNL as a one-stop gateway to the United States from any Australian capital city.

Or fly on HA and credit mileage to Velocity.

perhaps SYD>HNL>LAS is doable similar to QF's SYD>LAX>JFK ?

If Jetstar were to do a stop enroute, they would need the ability to sell between the intermediate points. This is impossible ex-HNL. Why SYD>LAX>JFK works is that is supported by MEL/BNE-LAX services as well, plus good demand for business class on the route too.

They could run SYD-HNL-YVR and codeshare with AA/AS to LAX, ORD, DFW, OAK, SEA, ANC and PDX.

A320 is via MNL or TPE I think - that's with 3K.

JQ operate direct SIN-KIX on A330.

Maybe SYD-HNL-YVR would work with codeshares on WestJet within Canada.

I can't see codeshares being of interest using Jetstar + 2 hops, to places like LAX, ORD, DFW etc. Remember one particular carrier already offers a LCC-esque non stop service to both SFO & LAX, that many Australians already are happy to pay a bit more to avoid

That may all be about to change!

LH are now ready to hop into bed with one of the Gulf Carriers.

Probably even Emirates!

Emirates "open to Lufthansa partnership" similar to Qantas alliance

SYD-HNL-YVR is a terrible way to get to YVR since you'd have to go through US customs and immigration. But I do remain a fan of the second part of that.

China and India do seem to make a lot of sense.

What about Johannesburg?

You're a fan of US immigration?

I'm sure they'd be able to work out something with CBP like NZ did for their AKL-LAX-LHR flights.

Reading those articles, that seems to be an overstatement of LH's current position.
