Does when you request an upgrade make a difference?

Quick question for the QF experts - does when you request an upgrade make a difference to the likelihood of it clearing? Ms testleper and I are are going to BKK in December from AKL via Sydney. Booked in June and immediately requested upgrades for the SYD-BKK (and return) sectors - do we have a better chance of these clearing because I did it ages ago, or does it basically make no difference? Will I be high up the queue?

Thanks!

Indeed you will. And if you're not more confused after reading it, I'll eat my hat.

Qantas used to have "time of request" documented as a tiebreaker, but no longer.

ergo - the answer is "not any more".
