No Wifi in MEL First Lounge. #3 in the list of today's disappointments. I hope The massage makes up for it.
Sorry if this was posted somewhere else but doing a search from my iPhone just usn't going to happen.

I had never noticed (in a dozen visits). The massage is ok, but not great, so better odds on the food making up for it. Plus the ambiance, MEL F can be pretty quiet, which is rather nice and quite an improvement over SYD.
QF 9 delayed due to fuel leak. Just dozed off and a screaming 2 year old wakes me twice. At least we have entertainment to make up for the lack if Wifi.
OK, so I got up from the area I was sitting (down near the dining area) and moved to the other end of the lounge. Put in my etymotic noise isolating ear buds which normally block everything. Dozing off again and you guessed it, mom brought screaming kid down to share her with me and the others at this end of the lounge. I complained to the staff but they would not do anything. The way things are going today they'll probably be in F.
BTW, this lounge is very crowded and quite noisy compared to my experience in SYD F lounge. YMMV

Bit rich complaining about your own screaming child isn't it? ;-)
Seriously however what would you like the mother to do with the child? It is not like the mother a) wanted an upset child and b) was intent on disturbing the ambience of you and the rest of the lounge.
What would you like the staff to do, check mum and bubs into the airport hotel so bubs can get some rest? Personally I don't agree with the children of any age in the F lounge policy which QF has and personally I think QF should ask those travelling with children of any age to use the J lounge however the policy states that CL, Platinum and PAX in F can bring children (and as many as they want) into the lounge. While that is the case the staff are powerless to do anything about it.
As for the wi-fi it is managed by Telstra and has been rubbish for a very long time.

Actually, since around mid October, the Wifi in most of the lounges has been fixed. (No longer any Splash Screen - just strait in.) I am thinking this is a separate issue.Originally Posted by nonce

I would not say they were intent on disturbing the ambiance; more they had callous disregard for anyone else. Originally Posted by nonce

The child wasn't upset, it just wanted to scream. At that age she was just testing out her newly discovered vocal chords. She was having fun, but Mom didn't need to allow her to walk all over the lounge invading other people's space and share her wonderful screaming daughter with everyone.Originally Posted by nonce

The parent should have been a parent and managed their child in way that they hung out in the area where they were seated. That is why I moved. I don't blame the kid, I blame the parents. Of course they have tunnel vision and think their kid is so cute, and go wherever the kid wanted to roam with callous disregard for the quiet enjoyment of anyone else.
The staff could have said something to the parents. If I go around screaming in the lounge, they probably would have said something to me. The same rules apply, but in the case of children, their parents are responsible for their conduct (an integral part of being a parent!). JMHO
Fortunately they were not in F. I feel sorry for whoever was graced with being near them on the plane.
