NZ based - which FF program?

So a friend is moving to NZ - and will occasionally fly from NZ to YYZ...maybe 2-3x per year?

They are not current part of a FF program - in fact flew a month ago but didn't credit the miles anywhere. They flew in Y - AKL-LAX-YYZ - QF for the first segment and AC on 2nd. I imagine they got there somehow too but have no idea what flights they took.

1. Is it still possible to credit these miles to a program?

2. Being NZ based - within OW or *A what is a better program for infrequent travelling?

3. If OW - it used to be AA seemed the better choice - but that credit card use in NZ would make QF somewhat more palatable. What QF credit card is available in NZ? Is there an AA credit card at all in NZ?

4. They would like to be able to redeem for upgrades to business class for a parent to travel more comfortably to visit them from YYZ - AKL (lie-flat seats would be important). Probably not a full award ticket but upgrade from Y to J. What is the best program for that? Looks like QF even offers upgrades from discount economy to business class.

Thanks for your help!

the general rule for ff credit is that you must be enrolled before [or during] the flight....

* alliance is prob the best, but their flying expectation is important....

re folks ug....who's the low bidder for their flights?....is the fare ok for mi ug?...how many mi to ug on a 1 way on that airline?

good luck...

Thanks for your help. I was still in shock that they didn't credit these miles anywhere.

Anyways I'll do more research - I'm more *A and not very familiar with OW (and they seem to think they were going to take QF rather than NZ) so I thought I would ask on the forum.

This maybe better in the Qantas forum.

In any case, in raltion to Qantas frequent flyer, with flights already taken, new members have up to 30 days after the flight to claim them retrospectively.

Thanks - I'll find out if that flight was in the last 30 days or not. I'll see if I can get this moved over to Qantas forum.

Only credit card in NZ that credits to QF is the ANZ QF Card.
NZ is a very barren place for Frequent Flyer earning with many NZ flights, and JQ, not earning anything
QF currently flys the A330-200 AKL - LAX and Business Class seems a little under utilized so decent opportunities for an upgrade.

Great! Thanks for the info. Not sure which bank they are going to use but will definitely let them know about the ANZ QF card.

So I checked this page out:

http://www.qantas.com.au/fflyer/dyn/partners/card

How good is amex use in NZ? Here in Canada some retailers don't accept it due to the high merchant fee...is that the case in NZ or do retailers tend to accept any credit card?

Looks like there is a no fee amex qantas card.

I use Air NZ Platinum Amex linked to my NZ airpoints account. I don't find too many problems with Amex acceptance in NZ or Australia for that matter. Annual fee is larger but It all depends on how much you use it.
