Tickets are no longer routinely issued with that designation, instead baggage allowance is specified for each sector (or just as "see operating carrier for limits"); only the RTW type fare products still have "2 pcs" type of allowance. Some airlines accept each other's allowances, esp. for tag-on sectors, and this seems to cross alliances. I think it is because AC wants the QF traffic, for example, so makes a better deal than UA with QF. Very annoying brave new world of air travel now. Often even the lowest FF status gets free baggage, fwiw, so well worth having status with many different airlines now.

Dave - this is all a single ticket and itinerary booked through a travel agent. I don't see the United travel as completely unrelated to the Qantas travel - quite the opposite.
Having said that, who knows what the actual rule is.
I spoke to the travel agent who said theoretically that because it was all an international ticket the international baggage allowances should apply on United.
I am thinking about asking for a status match with United in mid-December and then trying to arrange a work trip before mid-March to try to hit the miles target.
