I'm not sure that's right. W to J surcharges for US-originating tickets on BA are in the region of $800 to $900 roundtrip!

Have you done the upgrade over the phone? Such a price change would invalidate the deal (and there are tons of 'good' PE fares with BA currently).

If you price up prem econ and then business on ITA Matrix you can see what the difference is in carrier surcharges. That's the incremental amount you have to pay if you upgrade with avios.

Wow that's a lot higher than I remember. I remember paying around $200 on my flight from lhr to nyc a couple years back.

They seem to have added huge carrier surcharges US to Britain. Britain to US is still somewhat reasonable at about $200 according to ITA Matrix.

JFK ZRH in Business Class 653.23 Euros

653.23 Euros JFK-ZRH Business Class.
Return to JFK in Economy. No trick involved just using ITA's intensive coding capabilities.

Right ~

or you can use to fly from JFK to a very well-known European Capital flying on British Airways.

For 9 Euros more you can return from Tuscany to JFK. Probably just higher airport tax.
