... and check this out too

I have been eyeing their Christmas deals in J to South America under $1000 and I just couldn't pull the trigger. Not just government's stance but also how they handle cancelled flights.

Yep, it certainly does not spawn confidence in getting a ticket and putting the money out there only to perhaps have them go belly up, besides, as you already mention, their rather poor customer service even in good times!!

Maybe you might get lucky as I mentioned in another AM related thread here, that I in last week or so of March, had something like 3 purchase that stayed "pending" on the Credit card for numerous days and then finally just fell off, to not post as a transaction. Now its been well over 2 weeks. The PRN's still show as good, but AFAICT, AM never completed the transaction from the Credit Card, if their systems are doing this and somehow reservations are slipping thru the cracks, how can they possibly survive??

Yeah, the 'too good to be true' factor is hard to ignore with these exceptional and persistent AM deals flooding everywhere.
Could be just smart business on their part, but....

I just booked SFO-EZE for Thanksgiving week for a little under $977. The longer leg MEX-EZE is in the lie-flat seats. It's undoubtedly a great deal, but indeed who knows what the world will be like in 7 months from now...

I paid with the Chase Sapphire Reserve.

Also, if I am calculating this right, this would bank me ~25k Delta Skymiles?

Yes, assuming I fare and no status, SFO-MEX-EXE-MEX-SFO gets approx 25862 RDMs, 19396 MQMs.
