HU "early bird" deals in J for Feb-Apr 2020 (e.g. ORD-CTU USD1235)

I just saw this as part of a Google ad for Hainan Airlines and clicked through. I am a bit surprised that I hadn't seen it here yet, so I want to mention in case anyone is interested.

Hainan Airlines apparently has monthly "early bird" deals (or maybe they just started). The August, 2019 deals need to be purchased by Aug 28 (today), but there are some interesting deals available on some limited dates.

Chicago - Chengdu seems to be the price winner, at USD1235 in March and April. LAX to various Chinese cities served by HU as low as USD1665 in March and April.

Looking at fare rules, this seems to be an R fare, so earning on AS at 100% base plus 100% additional bonus. Only available for purchase on the Hainan website, but a Google Flights search does find the fare.

wow, if you can book via HU website, it's good till Aug 2020 as long you leave Chicago before late April. I am tempting to book it for Alaska status

Well I'm sure HU will continue to have the sales each month. $1235 from ORD to CTU nonstop in J is just amazing. At this rate I'll stop using my TK upgrade vouchers and just buy those cheap (relatively) J fares.

Let's make this thread HU monthly sales in J.

Great fare OP! Juts booked to CTU for a week and a half in March. If anyone else from the US books (or has familiarity with the HU website) take a look at when you enter your state in your credit card info, the drop down menu has them in some kind of weird order I cannot figure out.

Yes, seems to be gone. I was considering the idea of positioning to CTU, and then continuing on to another country (Japan, South Korea, etc) for the bulk of my time. Unfortunately, CTU is quite deep inland, and while a busy airport in China, does not have all that many foreign destinations available as direct flights.

The fare was supposed to expire on Aug 28, but I am still seeing some availability on the Hainan website. For example in GF, an outbound trip on April 21 can pair with plenty of return dates for the $1235 fare.

CTU often has cheap fares to Vietnam/Thailand on Sichuan Airlines or Thai Lion Mentari. Just be aware that Thai Lion Mentari is like the Spirit Airlines of SE Asia.

Not just SE Asia, China has high speed rail connected throughout the whole country which I prefer over flying at this point. I'd love to return to Xi'an and Lanzhou so this works out perfect for me. I'll keep my own fingers crossed for deals next few months. I wouldn't even mind paying a little more if they have the same sales for flights in May and June. While just twice weekly those departure days are ideal (finish work week on Friday and get on the flight, returning only requires 1 day off [Monday]).
