$1990 Air China roundtrip J on the same route and days with 77W flat beds all segs via IAP
of course dealing with the PEK connection mess.

According to this, JL should have upgraded this route to lie flats by now

Indeed. When I was looking at the LAX-KIX flight a few months ago, the JAL website reads that the route now has Sky Suite III seats; lie flat with all aisle access.
Nice find!

As a tall (6’6””) person, SS3 is probably one of the worst reverse herringbone lie flats. You would think it’s like Cirrus, but it’s not. Much more confining and less length, even on the windows. One of the few I’ll still actively avoid. Great IAP fare if I was shorter.

Depending on the dates, I see JL metal to NRT and AA metal to HND available as well for the TPAC portion.

Very nice! Haven't flown this route in quite a while... had no idea it changed.

so https://www.jal.co.jp/en/inter/servi...skysuite3.html

is showing 198 cm for length.

Which other products are longer?

agree that this is a killer fare even if it is to BKK leisure

I haven't flown this particular seat, but in general, if you're pushing the height limit for a particular seat, the configuration of the footwell matters just as much as the total length. It looks like this particular seat is very close to the floor in bed position, and has a very tight footwell:

Japan Airlines B777-200 Business Class Sky Suite III NRT-SIN ? Reward Flying

JAL's long-haul J seat is much more spacious despite technically being the same length.

It's long in length, but note your feet has to be put under the personal TV. It's more like the BE Super Diamond, but it is narrower and the hole under the TV is deeper, meaning when you lie flat you will find almost your entire leg under the TV. In comparison the long-haul apex Suite is wider and is more spacious.

great find... I just have to debate if it's worth it to requalify for AA EXP next year. This year was annoying enough.

Seems like an X fare so this should be pretty good for that.

Stopover

Prelim research looks like you can do a stopover in KIX for about $125 more

So over 16000 miles traveled, at 25% - $4000+ eqd. I don't actually ever have issues with EQMs, but I fly mostly discounted J or with SWU, I have difficulties getting $15k EQD a year. But honestly, my upgrade clearing rate on elite heavy routes like DFW-SFO, DFW-MIA, DFW-ORD have been abysmal this yeaer.

This deal (LAX-BKK on AA or JL) has been around in one form or another for most of this year. I booked one last February for a May trip, and was able to work in a 3 night layover in Tokyo for no additional cost: $2,633, about $250 less than this. The 4K+ EQDs was very nice. Unfortunately I had to cancel. Since then the $2800-2900 rate has been available, at least when I checked. Still not bad.

The KIX connection is not necessary. NRT and HND connections also come up for me at the same price.
