Oneworld J Class LAX to KUL or BKK $2,500 RT USD

I was looking for travel to SE Asia later in the year and came across this . A number of J class options out of LAX to KUL or BKK on a mix of AA, MH, KA, CX, or JL. I was hoping to try out JL business suites out and back, but the connection times did not work for me. I booked LAX-NRT-KUL and KUL-HKG-LAX with a mix of AA, MH, and KA for $2,500 RT per person. This is bookable on AA.com. Seems like there are options extending now through December.

$2500 is not an unusual fare, but still pretty good. Xiamen (Skyteam) has the $2,500 fare LAX-XMN-KUL pretty consistently; however, I jumped on this Oneworld option to avoid the transit in mainland China. Simplified things a bit for me.

That's a decent price for JAL. Watch out for the angled lie flats on the BKK leg, though.

If using AA fares over the water, why do they do this?

Why would AA let me do this - JFK-AA-LAX-AA-HKG-KE-ICN-KE-BKK rather than JFK-AA-LAX-AA-HKG-CX-BKK assuming I wanted to book HKG-BKK as CX and not AA 89xx?

You can build it in ITA and use ITA PowerTools to get it to price, I believe.
