Just flew this route two weeks ago on the reverse. It's a decent product, service isn't on par with european carriers, but it's a brand new 777 and the lounges are nice in Shanghai. Earns 150% on Delta, but I was able to call and get my flights changed for free moving into a higher fare class and ended up actually earning 200%

MU just launched PVG-ORD several months ago, and this a market that already had 2 established players (AA and UA). Until they gain traction, they will continue to offer aggressive fares.

And, AA will price aggressively: $1250 PVG-ORD or $1500 PVG-LAX-JFK. Need to book on aa.com's China site, otherwise, about US$300 more on the US website. Departures before 12/31, but can do returns thru March.

I'm not sure how the OP got the fare to price in J fare class, the only class that earns 200% on Delta. I can get some of the flights to price in J, but only domestic flights in China. If I use MU+ /f bc=J on ITA the fare jumps to 10,000 USD....
Still this fare, which prices at 8541 RMB on ITA, seems to allow 2 transfers in each direction, which can be priced domestically in F or J fare classes and earn a nice mileage bonus. The best routing mileage-wise would be PEK-KMG-PVG-ORD and back.
The routing I liked best was PEK-KMG (F) KMG-PVG (J) PVG-ORD (D) and back.
The MQM calculation would be 1970+2472+10586=15,028 (x2 for round-trip) = 30,056 MQM.
The RDM calculation would be 3283+2472+12350=18,105 (x2) = 36,210
The MQD calculation would be 656.5+494.4+2469.95=3620.85 (x2) = 7241.7 MQD.
Not a bad deal at all for Delta flyers. Domestic flights seem to be available in both J or F fare classes. Domestic A330's are available too if you play around with the routing.
