We are American.

Can someone verify if we fly from Toronto to Hawaii via Dulles that we clear immigration and customs in Toronto, and don't need to mess with that in Dulles?

Similarly, if we connected through Dallas on the way same question? Pretty sure this is all OK, just want to make sure we have enough time to connect.

EVERYONE clears customs immigration in Canada in most cities prior to flight to US. YYJ in an exception, probably other small stations as well.

Thanks that was my recollection but didn't want a surprise.

And yes, first 777 in HI config is in mods, possibly making test flights. Unless I'm thinking US domestic fleet, or if they will be one and same.
The Domestic 777 and Hawaii 777 are the same thing.

There's a reason UA flies 764s from EWR and IAD.
The 772A and 764 aren't THAT far apart for still air range. Still, even the 764 has to trip plan for a stop at SFO (which extremely rarely has ever happend).

There are some flights out of YVR that leave after the US FIS closes, and those do not preclear. Also, the CX YVR-JFK doesn't preclear. Finally, there are several smaller airports with flights to the US that don't preclear. The most significant is Toronto Island. Several others, including but not limited to: YKF, YXU, YYJ and more don't.

I would call 1400nm quite significant. It's the difference between making Hawaii and not.

5250-5500 vs. 5600. That is the difference.

Where are you getting your specs? I see 4200nm for the A.

Boeing. Also, at 4200nm still air, the A would have a rather hard time with some of the missions it does daily.

The best I see is $1388 on AA (Dec 23 - Jan 2) in domestic first via LAX. United's fares I see are at least $500 more.
