I was searching for a flight to achieve my platinum challenge, and found that SJU is a good destination to increase miles with a nice price.

Here's what I found:



Base miles : 8366

class bonus miles :4183

EQP: 12549

For AA offer,

EQP increases to 16732, and earn addition 2500 miles as Platinum/Gold member or 8000 as EXP member.

Pretty painless with the bulk of it being in A321T J.

EXP for ~$1500 for those on the challenge.

Excellent find. Btw it seems to work for most dates at least 21 days out, and the cheapest fare appears to be $749 r/t.

No it's been around for at least few weeks... I had a few on hold but when Sju-Lax was around $400 ish I bought that one way ($423 to be exact via Jfk)

The sample date is 11/14-11/15. Actually, lots dates available in November.

The con for this flight is that arrival time at SJU is so late around 1:30am and the departure time at SJU is around 11am.

If anyone wants a same-day trip at SJU, try SFO-PHL-SJU, the traveling time could be better, but you could earn less miles on AA offer.

Nice find -- lots of open dates and works from LAX for a similar price/routing. Cell phones/US currency still work in Puerto Rico .

Actually, I found a much better routing (at the same $749 price) that arrives at SJU just before 1pm. You have to take a redeye flight -- not at all a big deal considering the plane's literally designed for that purpose, at least in J and F -- and then connect to AA 937, which departs at 8:15am. The downside is a potentially short layover time; on the routing I used, the SFO-JFK transcon gets in at 7:30am. This quote's a few days old, and it's now under the 21-day advance purchase window (so I doubt you can replicate it), but it assumes an outbound departure from SFO on 10/17 on AA 18 at 10:55pm, and then connecting to the SJU flight.

Also, I know JFK is hit or miss in terms of arrival/departure times (to put it mildly), but weekend mornings are one of the few times their flights often land *early*, plus the two flights are probably in and out of the same terminal, so I wouldn't worry *that* much about a 45-minute layover.

Hello! Noob here but been lurking at FT for some time now. I just did one of this from lax-my 1st ever MR this weekend, few hours ago actually! Met another mileage runner too and hang out at the admiral lounge at jfk. Before this trip, 0 miles/eqp now I'm platinum. Pretty stoked! Oh and for the jfk-lax flight, I sat next to a certain HBO hit show actress

I can still find it through SJC but the routing is either LAX or DFW to MIA for ~$700. 9000 EQP.
