I am kind of interested in the reasoning behind the allowance to fly, but the situation was handled by that airport and the find was a pretty good one, as I mentioned before, I would have had to change my undies if it came in my bag room.

Is that why underwear goes missing? I still think you need to place a sign.

"All underwear are subject to seizure in the event of a bomb scare and TSO evacuation"

I make no excuses for the ones that miss that knife taped to the center of the red teams back, or the one with a pistol in their sock. Those are pretty glaring problems. But when something looks like a regular bag and has no indicators you can pick up on with the equipment it makes it tough! (That being said, some of the tests look like your prototype IED picture from an al Quaeda bomb page, I make no excuses for those failures either!)

That could be appropriate in certain circumstances, I would have to be careful though, I am fairly certain that "the woman" would knife me if I showed up in pink frillies....

I couldn't care less what the TSA's shoddy and stupidly-written little secret SOP document says to do in this situation. We've already seen how asinine it is on other matters; it's no surprise that such stupidity is printed.

The TSA should be destroyed.

Not me. ETD would have cleared the bag in seconds.

ETD may not have cleared the bag, with live caps in the bag there may have been some residue, and there is no telling what else the guy may have had in the bag before this.

We won't know now, since the panic button was pushed (yet again) without anyone bothering to do some thinking and try the ETD. :(

Recognizing the threat items, TSO William Lynch immediately notified Supervisory TSO Al Graddy and Transportation Security Manager Thomas Willoughby, local management and law enforcement. Bomb Appraisal Officer Thomas Carroll immediately arrived on the scene, declared the items a threat and ordered an immediate evacuation.

Is this a TSA position? Or is this an actual real LEO position within a bomb squad?

"To serve as a BAO it is a requirement that an employee be a graduate from an accredited Improvised Explosive Devices/Bomb Disposal Course, given by the FBI’s HDS or the Naval School Explosive Ordnance Disposal School, and has field experience as a military or civilian Explosive Ordnance Disposal or Bomb Technicians. This education and experience is required as a minimum deciding factor for selection as a BAO. If an individual does not possess this education and experience, they will not be considered for any BAO vacancies."

Seems TSA is hard at work on this.

Children and Strip Searches may just be the proverbial straw.

People -- read the article, read the caption, see the TSA deception. The picture does not say "Replica IED found yesterday by TSA at EWR", it just says "Replica IED". By implication, they lead you to BELIEVE this is a photo of the device found in the course of the search at EWR, but neither the photo caption nor the article says that it is. So yes, they have shown a picture of a "nasty looking" IED, but that was probably something their own guys put together and photographed two years ago, and they decided to pull this photo out of the files for this press release. What was found a EWR was probably a Sony Play Station or something like that.
