Is the TSA checking immigration status?

If someone is on an overstay flying domestically with a valid foreign passport, is the TSA checking the immigration status?

EDIT: Hey, i am a US citizen! this was a theoretical question.

Maybe. Probably shouldn't be, but I hope they are.

They aren't supposed to, since its not their job... but they do anyway.

Paperclip your passport, so only your info page opens.

Or better yet, don't overstay.

If you have a license, show your license, not your passport.

Bad answer/Poor suggestion.

DL's have addresses. Passports typically do not. I don't care to share my address with anyone at a TSA station. It's not info they would ever need, unless it's to additionally harass (Kangaroo court letters), or to determine a good B&E target, so giving TSA something with that info can only be a losing proposition for me.
Paper clipping the no-need for access passport pages together tends to limit their fishing expeditions.

How pathetic have we become?

I believe you are serious, but this statement always suggests "Can anyone help a new widow and recommend methods to remove blood from carpet and a hammer? This is a theoretical question, my late husband is NOT over there on the floor. . ." :D

Foreign licenses are not accepted except Canadian. Foreign nationals are required to show their passport unless they have a US issued photo ID.

The TSA has no way to verify immigration status. If someone gives the Travel Document Checker (TDC) an invalid or forged ID (suspected) of some kind then we will involve Law Enforcement, who may decide to check the immigration status of an individual. It is not TSA’s call.

The other day flying SFO-FRA, the TSA was checking passports right before the actual boarding. I'd already shown my passport twice and thought it was ridiculous.
What were they looking for?

I think the airline has an obligation to verify the person will be admitted to the foreign country, but not TSA.

...did SFO get TSA, or do you mean Team SFO?
