The other thing people can do in the meantime is write their elected representatives and complain about TSA incompetency and abuses of power. If enough of us complained, maybe some of the dead as**s on Capitol Hill would rein TSA in.

The story up to the carryon bag search made sense - but why did they spend 40 minutes looking through her carryon?

Because there's some idiot who thought, "Wow, maybe she really was a terrorist and the underwire bra thing is an excuse. So whatever she had in her shirt is now in her bag, and if I catch a terrorist, I get a kewpie doll. At the very least, for every ten bag searches I do, I get to choose one item from the box of stuff we've confiscated."

Delayed by her bra, air passenger is indignant
Tyche Hendricks, Chronicle Staff Writer
Tuesday, August 26, 2008 (08-25) 16:51 PDT OAKLAND -- When Berkeley resident Nancy Kates arrived at Oakland International Airport to board JetBlue flight 472, she thought she was heading off on a routine journey to visit her mother in Boston. Instead she ended up in a standoff with Transportation Safety Administration officials over her bra. http://tinyurl.com/6gkcae |

Passengers really have no recourse when the TSA sets their sights on you.
It's a power trip. Even when they see what the *dangerous* item is, they waste time and taxpayer$$$ swabbing it. Don't they realize an electric toothbrush is just that and not something they need to swab? Do they do it to justify having flagged it? Lack of common sense is now a salaried position with benefits. |
It is just a distraction so the next 10 or so get waived by.

Much ado about nothing, but the media likes a story that involves bras and government critique.
The woman was an experienced traveler, so she was well familiar with the process. Everyone gets a pat down when they set off the detector. Who knows what she could have been hiding up there? I agree with most of the anti-TSA sentiment but this dog don't hunt. |
