Ice brick

OK, I have posted before regarding taking prescription injectable drugs through multiple countries security and customs - thanks again for the informative responses.

I must keep the drugs below 4C so will need an ice brick.

What I need to know is how the ice brick will be dealt with. I have some long layovers in J lounges where the ice brick will melt to become a fluid brick of more than 100ml. I have a 9 hr wait in the TG lounge at BKK between flights from VTE - BKK - FRA - ATH. This little brick will be well and truly melted by ATH, any suggestions on refreezing it are also welcome!!

Came across these on the net - don't know if they are available in Australia - if not, should be, would be great for camping.

As long as you have a doctor's note clearly stating that you must keep the drugs below 4C and that the ice brick is a requirement you should be able to able to argue your way pass any official though some of them might put up a fight. Just keep calm and insist that the ice brick is part of the prescription. And if you are spending time in lounges, you should be able to get them to put the brick in the freezer and refreeze it for you.

I'm a type 1 Diabetic and I use a frio pouch to keep my insulin cool, but that will only keep the temp cool, not cold, you could use one of those in conjunction with your ice brick to keep the brick refridgerated for longer.

Actually, if you read the link you provided, they *come* from Australia

I have traveled with blue ice in my carry-on before (same as an ice brick?) and not had any problems from the TSA.

Thanks for that link to the Chillerz. I have emailed them to see if/where in Australia you can get them - google brought up nothing, even though they purportedly came from here!!

Hopefully I can get one before Thursday week!

Yellow ice is fine - as long as you don't use it to cool your drink .... I thought yellow cake was the dangerous one ....

The sad thing is that someday you will run in to a problem and it will be random. We had many, many flights with blue ice between ORD and TVC, often cleared by a supervisor, till one time in TVC they pulled it. My wife argued and lost (but the other guys always let me do it...), but checking the TSA website revealed that the last TVC agent was correct and the others were wrong--ice does not fly except for medical use.
