Yogurt - what is it? Is it secure?

Reading through the threads on liquid bans and such..

What's the stance on yogurt?

Is it a liquid? A gel? Isn't it technically alive and thus not really in a physical state but rather an organism?

Is there an official ruling on yogurt?

Mr. Hawley says if you tip something out and it loses its shape then it's prohibited otherwise it's OK.

So yogurt bad, Semtex good.

Hadn't even thought about that - that's AWESOME!

Probably a little rough on the teeth and digestive tract, though... :p

What about a cloth bag stuffed with pennies. 'Cause, you know, if I tip out the pennies, the bag changes its shape.

Thanks,
Mike

Sounds like the TSO's need a sieve or something to measure particle size/liquidity. More stuff to flash like the jeweler's loupe and UV light. Add a scale to measure 3oz/100ml, some ph paper, maybe a coke test kit, and pretty soon they could have a full lab to carry around. Or get busted off duty for drug paraphernalia...@:-) Oh, maybe thats what the new badge is for...:D

Yoplait - YES!

I have gotten Yoplait (6 oz) through security in SEA, HNL, OGG, TPA, JFK, IAD in the last year.
I travel with my 2 young children (without my husband) so I don't know if security has pitty for me. :D

"Okay, that's fine. Confiscate it. But you guys have to explain to my kids why they can't have their Go-gurt."

That should settle any arguments! :)

I've had yogurt confiscated. I wasn't traveling with children though. Peanut Butter is also considered a liquid but unless I microwaved it, there would be no pouring.

Yogurt - condensed milk thickened with acid-producing bacteria - sometimes confiscated
Cream cheese - milk and cream thickened with acid-producing bacteria, whey removed - sometimes confiscated
Parmesan cheese - milk thickened with acid producing bacteria and enzymes, whey removed - not confiscated

How do you measure a unit of liquid volume with a scale?

crhptic May 21, 2008 3:36 pm

The same way you detect explosives with an x-ray machine...TSA magic!

tev9999 May 21, 2008 7:18 pm

Since yogurt is alive, can you claim it as a pet?
