My experience over the last year or so is about 50% of the time I have no problems. The other half of the time it's not OK and I generally leave the screening area and eat the dangerous substance and then carry it through security again (this time in my stomach).

(sigh) I've had the same experience. It is whatever the TSO says it is. No consistency, even within the same airport. When I don't have a problem, I'm never sure if it's because they failed to spot it or because they saw it and accepted it.

Yogurt is still a prohibited item. You are allowed to bring it along if its for your kids though.

What? This makes no sense at all. Either it's allowed or it's not.

You'd be surprised how very little that's actually the case when it comes to the LGA.

Look at it more as: It's always prohibited, except when it's not.

I wrote at length on the TSA EoS Blog about how the LGA ban was just full-up, riddled left and right, with various exemptions and exceptions and the like. Even the 3.4oz/100ml thing is one of the exemptions.

Should we collaborate and add an "As defined by the TSA" section to this page?

:D

Maybe I need to be more specific. Dont bring yogurt if its not for a young child 7 and under, who is flying with you.

Unless the TSO decides to exclude it anyways, which they have full authority to do. After all, this is what the TSA says in its own publication:

Transportation security officers (TSOs) may determine that an item not on the prohibited items chart is prohibited. In addition, the TSO may also determine that an item on the permitted chart is dangerous and therefore may not be brought through the security checkpoint.
In short ... you're always at the mercy of the TSO.

OK, so what if I freeze it and bring it through security as a solid? Are solids also prohibited?

I know this is silly but so are these silly rules which do nothing to really enhance security of any kind.
