The writer must be a Lucas fan. I noticed both the number on the x-ray and the flight number are 1138.

Might just be sci-fi in general - the main character used a BSG "swear word" ("What the FRACK!") when booking his "cheap" fare and getting socked with $500 extra bucks in surcharges.
