TSA flip flop

I arrived at the entrance to security screening at Dca terminal "A" this morning with my blind companion and and was told I could put away my photo i.d., "you won't need it anymore". The young man was pleasant and we were on our way. A few minutes later after I walked through the metal detector and presented my boarding document to another TSA person who demanded to see my photo i.d. She expressed displeasure when I told her it was in my jacket in a plastic bin being scanned. I could not proceed until my stuff emerged and I could go over to retrieve my i.d. In the meantime my companion was fumbling and stumbling around in the concourse confused by my absence.
At the least I wish they would not tell us we won't need our photo i.d.'s anymore. Because we do.

We've had this happen a couple of times this year. Really annoying....!
I now just keep my ID in my pocket until we're all the way through.

since when? that latter TSO was in the wrong, unless there was another "secret word-of-mouth memo" that went out to all TSOs except for those that didn't get it.

My reply would be - "ID is not required for domestic travel."

Not a problem, change your gloves prior to performing your rancid procedures - I insist on fresh gloves from a box, in my visible range when you remove them from the carton and place them on your hands. And keep yourself out of my visual contact with my luggage while performing the search.

TSA = expect the unexpected.

Luckily, they're environmentally friendly have have online versions of their procedures since they keep changing in short periods of time (from ID checker to mag).
