D Terminal at LAS

WOW! In all of the airports we go through on a weekly basis, I was stunned to see the line this morning at the D Terminal at Las Vegas! I guess Vegas is happy to see you come, but not so quick to let you leave....

PROS: The TSA were EXTREMELY professional and courteous. (I am getting to the point that the good service is the anomaly) BTW, not one mention of large electronics coming out of the bag... I did not see one secondary check... I think that these folks realize that they have 1000 (literally) people waiting to get through...

CONS: OMG! I have never, seen a line TO GET TO the TSA line before... not like this! A word to the wise, there is a first class TSA line, AFTER you stand through the general line-to-the-line. I estimate that there were at least 1,000 to 1,500 folks in line (the good news is that it went fairly fast, considering) Also, there is a place where the coach line crosses the first class line and folks were just hopping over, with the Privateers (McCarran security) not doing anything to stem the flow...

Viva Las Vegas!

All-in-all, not the most pleasant way to get on an airplane.

it has been my experieince that (early) monday mornings are generally busy at las with such short flights to oak, sfo, lax, sna & lax as folks will go straight to work (ugh) (and also the wn terminal for the flights [aka the stripper specials) to lax, sna & san] and if it also happens to be at the end of a convention w/e, then that's gonna add to the crowds as well.

n.b. i leave on sunday afternoons or the monday of a holiday w/e to avoid just this

It just keeps getting better and better...

The 12:45 flight to DFW that turned into the 2:15 flight that turned into the 4:00 flight... that turned into the 4:45 flight... that then got cancelled....

The Gate Agent just announces that ALL luggage is being returned to the baggage claim. It just so happened that I was on the phone with the AAdvantage Platinum line and the lady quickly rebooks me on the 4:00 (now 5:15). I ask the GA if I can just forward my bags along without having to go back down, reclaim them, check in again AND go through TSA again....

The answer... "No, I am done with this flight." Waved her arms at the line and walked away....

I feel for the GAs, but the lady on the Platinum Line heard it all... and said, "Wow... ummm... sorry...."

I knew this was going to be a bad day when the battery for the shuttle bus at the Doubletree died... and we had to get another van.... this, as they say, was a sign....

Soooo....for the class I have to teach in Houston tomorrow, I am going to fly into DFW, rent a car and drive to Houston....

Pay attention to the signs, they don't lie.....

I was once taking an early morning flight out of D gate, the line was "S" shaped--but moved quickly. This occurs when a big convention ends.
The red-eyes have pretty short lines, the last time I went through security at 10:30 pm, there about 15 people on line.
Sometimes they will let D gate people use the C gate security lines--why don't they let them use A and B--once your have cleared security, you are no longer a "threat to safety" and since you can get from any gate to any other one (ie, you are connecting) this should be permitted.

i'm gonna add that not only was it monday, but the veg-tv (oops, mtv ) video music awards (vma's) were in las over this past weekend so i think that might have added to the normal monday crowd.

Vegas TSA is always bad.

One more reason I dislike the city.

I flew out of "D" on Monday morning (6.20 am); it wasn't that bad. The line was long, but it moves. I think it took me a total of 15-20 minutes, maybe less, from the time i got in the line until I was waiting for the shuttle to D. The way LAS is designed, you can clear "D" passengers thru the "C" security or use the "C" detectors, but you can't do it with A and B. I find the TSA at LAS to be no better or worse than at most busy airports....always barking orders, seeming to hate their jobs, etc. but in general, the lines do move fairly speedily.

It did seem to have something to do with the Mtv thing. We were ahead of some moron rappers (Gorilla something) and they kept running into us literally. One was so drunk I'm amazed he could stand. He kept trying to give bzbdavid a CD to "take back to his country, it's called music" Ah huh. Evidently Alicia Keys was right ahead of us... wouldn't know her if she smacked me.
The second time through security the line wasn't as bad... although the TSO doing boarding passes after the metal detector got mad at me because she was saying something and I couldn't understand a word of it. She said "I've been here 10 hours and no one even listens to me"... so I told her I couldn't hear her properly and she said "well then you weren't listening were you?"
Felt like saying "I would if you'd annunciate in a language that resembled english!" She was so concerned about nobody listening to her that she didn't even touch or glance at my boarding pass when I went to hand it to her.

Got back to the gate - delay 2x... we finally got boarded we waited another 30-40 mins before taking off.... when we got to Houston we waited over an hour for bags (no one working at that hour I guess)...drove to Houston and got to the hotel at 3:30 this morning. Dropped bzbdavid for work at 7:30... I came back to the hotel and fell face first into blessed Hilton bedding..........! (hey I drove!)

Looks like a bunch of us were at D in LAS yesterday! Hubby and I were there at about 6:20am and while we had no problem, as we were in F on CO-- the lines to our right seemed to go on and on. I partiularly liked the TSA's comments "Keep moving and if someone in front of you seems confused or isn't going fast enough--- walk right in front of them...but just keep moving"
PS-- we were not out for the MVA's-- but for opening weekend of pro-football
