Rules about fruit
Please help settle a dispute.
My wife is flying LAS->SFO->PVG. She had some grapes.
I said that she could take them with her, no problems as long as she ate them before landing in PVG. (Not that China actually seems to look at luggage much. I've been looked at exactly once when they left our bags behind and we had to go back and get them two days later.)
She insisted that security here in LAS would take them.

TSA should only take the grapes that have been made into wine (over 3.4 oz). Grapes should not be considered a liquid or a gel. (I probably wouldn't have believed anyone that told me back in July that I would be discussing whether grapes are permitted on board because they might "explode".

As long as each grape is smaller than 100ml she's okay
Seriously, I've not had any problems with fruit -- Oranges, apples, bananas, etc.

But (remembering a very funny John Cleese Monty Python sketch) isn't fresh fruit dangerous?

We have our grape expert. Uva = grape.I've taken grapes on various XYZ-ORD-PVG combinations and no one has caused me any grief about taking grapes on board a flight. What percentage "liquid" content triggers the idiotic "3-1-1" rules? Are human bodies banned yet ... or only those with a full bladder?

We live in a citrus-growing area and have, at times, had it taken away from us at departure airport (out of carry on bags) due to agriculture/pest concerns. Have also had avocados removed by TSA, probably same issues.
Another time took a whole suitcase full of oranges to Eastern Europe, no questions, no problems, was checked luggage. YMMV.
