I know it has been done to death but I had a new twist today at A security theatre.
After the two contracted ID checkers I get the first TSA BP checker. Since the line was backed up, I ask him when to they use the expensive and more effective puffer (in about 20 minutes no one was sent through that I saw)? He says that I can use it if I want - I say great no shoes off and all of that. He looks at me like I'm a total idiot and then says no you can go through then get back in line and go through the WTMD and take of my flip flops! Now I look at him like he is a total idiot and decline his generous offer. I go through the regular show including the two additonal BP checks! I feel so safe!

This is a perfect example of how the dog-and-pony show of "security' TSA-style is actually making air travel less secure than it would otherwise be.
The puffer is much more effective at detecting explosives than the x-ray, yet they require people to carry still remove shoes and put them through the x-ray. Brilliant thinking, TSA.
