How about disposable contacts?

I have disposable contacts, they come in a little sealed blister packs that contain some fluid. Are these allowed?

They look sort of like these:

Thanks for posting this question, I have wondered as well. I carry two sets of spares in my carryon.

Technically, these are prescription items. Mine show the prescription on the blister packs, too, and like you, I do usually bring one to two extra on trips for each eye, as even though they are monthly disposables, sometimes they wear out more quickly, etc.

It should be that the prescription on the lens is enough, but I suspect from so many eyewitness accounts that they will demand a paper prescription from the doctor as well. I've got one for mine, but it's expired (I ordered online, and when I renew, they just call the doctor to verify).

Just put them in a dark corner of your bag and don't say anything... think of it as your little protest against this whole ruckus - I bet no one will notice. If they do, just pull out your prescription

If you volunteer that you have them, though, particularly without proper documentation, I bet they will be taken away

Disposable contacts can be bought in many countries from many websites without ever getting a prescription. The liquid they come in will receive the same treatment as any other liquid.

How much fluid is in them? You can now take up to 4oz of non-Rx fluid.

There is probably less than a few millilitres with each lens, so it should be fine.

I don't foresee any issues with contacts. The only thing I see as a problem is when you carry a bottle of saline solution with you. But I wouldn't make an issue of disposable contacts or contacts in their protective case.

So far everyone who has posted on this thread are talking about sneaking contacts through security or have a guess that they are going to be allowed. I think the scary thing is no-one really knows--- three days after the news. I wonder if Contact lens wearers are going to be shocked when they find out that their expensive lenses will have to be thrown out at security along with their other water based liquids.

Anyone know for sure?

I went through PHX and ATL last night with an entire box of disposable contacts, and my saline rewetting solution in my pocket, no problems.

I'd be surprised if they kicked up a fuss.

Well just to be safe I just got my OD to write script for both my rewetting drops and the contact cleaning solution. In his description he wrote that these are for the treatement and prevention of conjuntivitius. He and I both laughed at that one. We figure the average TSA screener is going to have no idea what conjuntivitus is and seeing the word itus in it may make him think it is contagous.

However, in reallity I don't think the script will really do much good as eyedrops are specifically prohibited.

This thread is turning rather USA and TSA-centered. Over 95% of the worlds population lives elsewhere.

Is there anyone here on FT who tried to sneak some spare disposable contacts past the H2O gestapo at LHR?
