Theft from Checked Baggage

Grrr......

I know this has been covered before, but this just got my goat. I work for a television station in the news area. One of our photographers (while just coming back from the local airport for the security story) and I were discussing airline security. Here's how the conversation went down:

Me: "If everything has to be checked, it'll be like Christmas for the baggage handlers. More things will get stolen than ever before."

Him: "Stolen? Nobody steals anything from bags. It doesn't happen."

Me: "What? Of course it does!"

Him: "When? When have you had anything stolen?"

Me: "Not personally. I fly about every three years."

Him: "Oh, then how do you know people get things stolen?"

Me: "Hey, I'll show you this website..."

Him: (cutting me off): "Oh.....a website I check EVERYTHING. I never carry anything on. There's no reason to carry anything on bigger than a purse."

I hope he decides to travel very, very soon and take all his valuables with him. Dolt.

Anyone care to add their two cents? Should I dispatch him for speaking ill of flyertalk?

Maybe that's why he was such an .... Sometimes we feature a new airline in town and follow them on their first flight out with cabin video, etc so they don't check anything.

When these guys do DC runs or someplace further than usual for a story, they check them every time. And you can bet these cameras are in the $50K range (although it wasn't their $50K to begin with).

Should tomorrow be "walk around with a limp Friday" for him?
