MCO Security - bad design?

MCO is definitely #1 on my list of "hate their security"

This is tough to do without a picture - they have a line of detectors and feed the sheep, er, passengers, into it from one end. Net result is that if you get shuttled to the line with the far detector, you're in a line of fifty people. If you get shuttled into the line for the near detector, you're in a line of five.

Yesterday I managed to steer myself to the short line, but soon afterwards a TSA guy started actively steering people towards lines.

How can they NOT see how f'ed up this is?

(On top of that during tourist season you're stuck behind a crowd 90% of which have no experience in dealing with the process...)

I've got to agree that MCO is one of the worst I've ever faced. I was just through there last week and, midday, the lines were taking 45+ minutes to pass through the ID checker and WTMD's. And MCO no longer has an "elite"/First Class speed line, at least not for the DL gates.
Other airports rival MCO on occasion.....FLL, BWI, SEA and PVD immediately jump to mind....but I agree that MCO takes the cake day in and day out.

C'mon out to DEN. If we don't steal $400 from your wallet or assault your grandmother, we'll find some other way to piss you off!

At BWI's D gates, you have to look out for yourself. A lot of times they don't have anyone directing traffic at all. Very Keystone Coppish.

Almost anytime I got in a short line was because I put myself there. It's pretty rare that they have anyone directing traffic. I've only ever seen them when the line was down to the international terminal.

I'd rather put up with the hassle than give TSA any of my info.

meh... to each his own. I was against it at first, but till AA offers an Elite line at MCO, this'll do me just fine. I figure if they needed to know my info, they'll get it whether or not I have that card.

But to each his own... I can agree with and respect your view. I just don't care for waiting in line at MCO.

The setup at MCO is awful, but the on few trips I've had through there recently, at least the TSA didn't seem to be practicing either a shoe carnival or bad attitude in general. But the lines DO suck.

I agree these days the TSA seems professional. No shoe carnival.

When I was there 2 weeks ago a five year old put his two year old brother in a plastic bin to go through the Xray.

"Timmy! Don't put your brother in the XRay!"
