St. Paul Pioneer Press article
Just in time for the holiday rush, airline passengers will once again be subject to random secondary security searches, including "pat-downs," starting Dec. 22.
That means some folks will be pulled aside for another going-over after they already pass through a metal detector and their carry-on bags are inspected at airport security checkpoints. That going-over, too, is being revamped....
"Whether you were a frequent flier or a potential terrorist, you knew what to expect,'' said Kip Hawley, Transportation Security Administration assistant secretary. "With the changes we are implementing later this month, that predictability will be gone."
Screening procedures will be easy for passengers to navigate, he said, but difficult for terrorists to manipulate....
Random secondary screenings were dropped in 2003 because they were deemed too much of a hassle. But the TSA says they will now take only a minute or two.
They may include a screening of shoes for explosives, additional "wanding," "enhanced" pat-down searches and bag inspections.
In the past, TSA protocol called for a pat-down of the entire back and the front of the torso around the stomach. The new pat-downs will include arms and legs to improve the odds of detecting nonmetal weapons and explosives.

What's going to happen if someone has had recent surgery and cannot be "pat down" in such areas of the body?
Just had heart surgery or a C-section and still subject to a pat-down?

What a crock of sh!t.
What is he smoking or what kind of cool aid is he drinking? The only thing consistant with the TSA is that they have never been consistant. Nothing new, but perhaps, more inconsistency and more haraSSSSment of passengers. The ones haraSSSSed the most will obviously be the ones who use the system the most, the frequent flyers.
This "new" policy will make things much worse & bring additional hassle if this means they're going to stir things up even further. Perhaps "Kip" came to the conclusion the TSA is such a train wreck that there will never be consistency and they might praise this inconsistent mess under the name of "security".
Smoke and Mirror's folks. It's called politics .. lets spend lots & lots of money, buy lots of big fancy looking equipment, and make Ma' and Pa' feel better... Yup, anything for "security"!
So, how much money is this agency and extra nonsense costing us? How much does the TSA spend on just screening shoes alone?
The $2.50 per segment (upto $10 per round-trip) certainly isn't covering the runaway costs. Take a connecting flight round-trip and you get to pay $5 each way for screening, even though the majority of connecting pax will only go through the TSA checkpoint once, but have the pleasure of paying twice.

Those are very good TSA employees at PHX and sometime I went to see some friends at baggage screening inside ticket counter.
Can you revise the above or restate yourself? (I am having trouble understanding the above.) Thanks.

Seriously though, definitely file those complaints every singlle time you are pulled for unnecessary secondary screening, but try not to take it out on the unfortunate screener who is carrying out the directive.

What's wrong with asking for clarification?
I just read it and thought: huh?
Why are your panties in a bunch (and yes, I read the other thread too)?

That's been all over FT....I just assumed you guys had read it .... My mistake, sorry.
But the first sentence stands...Why is GU so concerned with checking English and grammar. We all type faster than we think.
