Checking in at Ft Myers airport was crazy. No discreet location, they had me rack the slide right there at the counter in front of a group that was behind me waiting to get to the ticket counter! Unreal.......

This is the one thing that I hate about jobs like this, things aren't consistent. So far I've worked 4 different terminals at JFK since I worked for TSA there, and things are different in each terminal...which really makes no sense to me at all.

At T9 why did they check the gun at the ticket counter? Well I can tell you this. I worked T9 for 5 hours one day, and they way baggage is done there is different than any other terminal at JFK. T9 has this new baggage system that's very confusing. Once you give your bag to the ticket agent, that's it. The screeners there don't physically see the bag; everything is done onscreen...unless it's alarms a type that nobody can clear. I saw the insides of the baggage system, because I asked somebody to give me a tour of the facilities before I left, and I'll say again it's a very confusing, maze like system.

In that system, what do you do when you find a gun in the bag.... or for that matter who cares?.. If its in checked luggage and nobody can get ahold of it....

Since bags wiith guns are required to be locked, how do you get to a bag to inspect it... and how do you get the owner there to open it for you?

Perhaps a long arm but not a hand gun. You must posses a valid NYS handgun permit, NYC you must have a carry or target permit. PAPD wants to clear all weapons being declared. Same problem at LGA.

Yes, I can carry a concealed handgun anywhere in the US. Its Federal law and the communist laws of NYC cannot change that, they just have to (and had to) accept that.

Who cares what PAPD wants, its not their job to clear them, they are just loooking for a way around the 4th amendment. All they did in my case was cause me grief between the uninformed PAPD office, and the even less informed TSA supervisor who wanted to enforce local laws instead of federal law, and who did not follow TSA procedure in regards to a bag that did not set off an alarm and just hapened to have a handgun in it.

Port Authority Police are just like NYPD, except their jurisdiction is at LGA, JFK, EWR, World Trade Center, Port Authority Bus Terminal, etc.

I knew that PAPD was essentially an arm of NYPD. Just a local agency.

After getting no response to my TSA complaint, I sent them an expanded one yesterday and found they have an email address for civil rights violations as well....


I got calls from the NRA-ILA, and the lawyer I talked with had me send them things, and they are working on addressing it too.

Glad I moved away from NY, I lived in the land of Chuck Schemer.....I mean Schumer.

Its pretty bad when the Department of Justice notifies them that they are doing something wrong, and they still continue, and will until they are forced to stop.

It makes me think that they are arresting people for doing what they are doing... not obeying the law.

So why did you not simply identify yourself as a LEO or are you a unarmed LEO within nyc such as cuny public safety or some other agency and just happen to have a gun permit?

Something does not add up here, if you are in fact a LEO you would have identified yourself; the supervisor would have said have a nice day... and the papd officer would have never been called.

PAPD has nothing to do with NYPD, and is far from an ARM of NYPD. Port Authority is a dual state INDEPENDANT ORGANIZATION, their officers are trained in both nys and njs penal law.

The only thing PAPD has anythign to do with NYPD is they let some NYPD officers park in their the PAPD parking lots for free. thats the only ARM(slang for FREE)
