Senators: DCA General Aviation Proposal "Too Restrictive"

Washington Post Article (free registration required)

Senate Commerce Committee Chairman Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) said safeguards being finalized by the TSA, including requiring an armed law enforcement officer aboard all small planes, are "just going to kill general aviation as far as private aircraft" because of added costs.

This entire plan is absurd. Even if you consented to the background investigation, what general aviation or corporate pilot in his or her own mind would permit an armed stranger to board their aircraft and sit next to them while he/she was flying the plane? If there's a company stupid enough to submit to this, I'm sure as heck not going to do business with them.

...at least airliner pilots have a reinforced cockpit door between them and Eliot Ness sitting in F.
