Note, that is, as I said, per person. Considering that we are talking about TSA policy makers here, I imagine that there were considerably fewer heads.

No? Do you hate freedom? I think you do!

In this case, it was the TSA leadership using taxpayer dollars to congratulate themselves on creating agency which is a complete farce.
They certainly have every right to do that, just as former Delta CEO Leo Mullen and cronies were perfectly correct in using shareholder money to give themselves multi-million dollar bonuses for their success in putting the airline on the road to bankruptcy.

Detouring, at the risk of speaking for Doppy, I think he was having a little fun with the people who see any criticism of the TSA as being somehow anti-American.

not quite a couple hundred bucks but...
Out here we do get minor awards actually. Things like perfect attendance for the year or spotting an obvious deadly weapon will get you a congrats note that goes in your file and a pin to put on your uniform. For not missing work during the busy summer season I was entered into a drawing and won a $50 gift certificate. These awards are not given with a formal ceremony though. Usually the screening manager will come by at the end of the shift and present you with the award. But even a small gesture is nice though.

TSA spent $81,000 on plaques
Another lovely article that further breaks down the squandering of public funds at this awards feast:
Chicago Sun-Times Article
"The government agency in charge of airport security spent nearly a half-million dollars on an awards ceremony at a lavish hotel, including $81,000 for plaques and $500 for cheese displays, according to an internal report.
Awards were presented to 543 Transportation Security Administration employees and 30 organizations, including a "lifetime achievement award" for one worker with the 2-year-old agency. Almost $200,000 was spent on travel and lodging for attendees."

I had no idea the vitriol against the TSA until I came to this thread. Does seem like a lot of money to be throwing about for an awards bash though considering it's a government agency.

I just saw a segment on CNN this morning.
One of the awards given was a TSA lifetime achievement award.
Who did this go to, considering the TSA is only two years old?

Paraphrased:"One person crapped their pants; let's put everyone in diapers. Very leaky diapers."
