Aborted Landing AA66

Sorry if this is not the right forum, however I was on AA 66 (a 777) from DFW-ORD on Friday, June 25.

The landing was aborted when we were very close to touch down. The pilot explained that there was another plane 'in our way' so he was 'gonna go round and try it again.'

Considering this plane is 'heavy' and requires special handling from a Control point of view - what the heck is going on at O'Hare?

Also, how much trouble might we have been in?

It's impossible to say how much trouble you might have been in without knowing the details. It could have been very close - or might have been only a precaution for a minimally risky situation. Usually what happens is that a much lighter or slower plane has landed or taken off just in front of you - could be a commercial prop or small general aviation aircraft...and hasn't quite put enough distance between the two to feel 100% comfortable, or to abide by ATC regs. Probably nothing at all to worry about, and it sounds as though your pilots were playing it as safely as possible.

I estimate I've flown 2 million BIS miles. This has happened to me three times (Seattle, Salt Lake, and somewhere else that I don't recall).

Eventually if you fly enough, odd things will pop up. Just something else to shrug off.....

It's been happening to me on average once a year at LGA. Every time because the plane preceding us didn't get off the runway quickly enough.

Runways at LGA are just too short. Don't fly out on USAirways during snow.

Remember USAirways 5050 and 405. Both crashes were in the snow. I was at both.

Interesting advice. I suppose we should also avoid flying on AA or UA, since 100% of all suicidal hijackings in the USA have been on those two airlines.
