ticket checkers
left hilo yesterday on the 4:40 flight and when entering the check point, check ticket and i.d, before entering the metal dector, check ticket, check i.d. go thru metal dector, check ticket, and i.d. all within 5-10 feet, just me & my son. Why the waste of manpower or just to make work to justify the numbers needed to keep the tsa jobs?

I think one of the problems is(and i KNOW the response this will get) is basically the mindset of those running their particular airport-what they don't seem to realize is, depending on the airport, you don't need all those people there except many five travel times a year, but the COST of having them their during the peak flying times is a lot of standing around the rest of the time-regardless of what y'all think, you do NOT want labor force to supply fill in during peak seasons just so we can downsize that much more...
i agree-checking tickets every five feet IS probably busy work(i know we don't do it at my airport, but one of my co-horts just came back from a trip to hawaii and told me she blasted them there for doing it)-they may not see it as such, but really, if you make it past the ticket checker, you should be good to go and your boarding pass really doesn't need to be looked at again unless we confiscate something prohibited...

And the opposite happened to me a few weeks ago at LAX when I took the red-eye to the east coast.
Only one person looked at just my boarding pass. No ID check. Was at the bottom of the stairs leading up to security.

The queue area is actually under the control of the air carriers/Airport. The ticket checkers are hired by them. It is the responsibility of the ticket checkers to steer the selectees to the correct lane. The reason the WTMD Screener double checks the boarding passes is to ensure that selectees do not go into the wrong lane. If a selectee isn't secondary screened and gets on the plane and the air carrier agent discovers this when doing their boarding pass check, the passengers could be deplaned and all re-screened or just the selectee but there will be a delay.
Isn't it worth a few seconds annoyance then the whole flight be delayed.

That's it! You cracked the case! It's all just job justification. I heard they keep 1 x-ray machine at each and every lane you can go through just to justify the position of x-ray screener. Sheesh!</font>

TSAMGR,first ticket was airport hire, the next two were tsa personel. in hilo, there is only 1 lane to go into the waiting area and tickets are checked again at the entrance prior to boarding, so getting on the wrong flight is not very possable. so i do not think we would worry about having a flight delay because of this.
