The local Board of Health Inspectors are a "Regulatory Enforcemtn Personnel. They are NOT addressed as "Officer".

If they are not comfortable with their last names (BS), then the Employee number should be REQUIRED.

Perhaps you should read my reply a little more closely. I never said they were officers. However, I did point out where they get their authority, which was the question in the first place. Like it or not, they are the authority when it comes to screening.

NoStressHere,

Thats your belief I guess. But Im sorry I was raised from day one to treat people with respect by calling them "Ma'am/Sir, Mr. Or Ms.". That was further reinforced in school.

So my understanding is that you should call someone by those things unless you know them. I would love to put on my tag, my last name but was never given that option.

And if you replied to me as "Thank You, "insert first name"" I would be uncomfortable.

As for the word "divest", used it for a week, never again. It confused so many PAX it wasnt funny. I use the " Do you have any items in your pockets that are metallic?" and usually add sme examples "Such as change, foil, cell phones, beepers?" It works really well for me.

And Ive done the same thing you speak of CATSA, when busy. If Im busy Im not going to make small talk and I know it seems rude but Im there for a job not a chat.

The use of first names by persons unacquainted is nothing more than an attempt to patronize and demean. Nobody should do it - not the pax and not the screeners.

Not a whole lot different than calling someone "boy."
