TSA Biometric Gates

While traveling out of EWR Terminal C this afternoon, I spotted these new biometric gates after going through touchless ID at the PreCheck checkpoint. I did not spot these until after clearing the TDC and waiting to go through security theatre, though it appears there is a card reader, like the CAT machines, and a flat scanner for passports. I did watch a confused passenger place his ID into the card reader which then displayed his live photo, compared to his ID pic and a variety of green check marks (like you'd see on the CAT machines).

Has anybody seen these or used one at another airport? These appear to be different than those being installed at various CLEAR checkpoints.

I've gone through them at LGA Terminal B and LAX Terminal 7. Both were for the pre-check queue. They're fantastic and better than Clear because with Clear someone still scans your boarding pass before you can use the e-gate.

Yes -- these are installed on the Pre-Check Lines at International Terminal in Atlanta. I've been thru them 2x and both very smooth.

Biggest issue right now is that the line doesnt back up so much for ID checks as it does waiting on the super slow CT machines for bag scans. They've got to figure out a solve for that.

I'm 0/4 on these gates so far. Not sure why this is, one agent said perhaps my data hadn't been uploaded by my carrier (AA) yet.

But even without the face matching working, they either look at ID or make you put the ID into a scanner and boom, you're on your way.

TSA has a list of where these gates are installed, it's a pretty decent rollout and includes terminals/carriers that never allowed Clear (AA at ORD for example).
