Taking olive oil through security

I bought someone as a gift, 3 bottles of olive oil (250 ml each or 8.5 fl oz.). Would I be able to take it through security somehow? I have global entry, so not sure if that makes a difference or not.

No, unless it happens to be in a sealed duty free bag you'll likely have to put it in your checked luggage.

How would anyone here know without knowing the country in which you are boarding?

Your reference to GE suggests that you are entering the US from overseas. Details will get you a correct answer.

In fact I bought 100 ml bottles of olive oil, and still had to pull it out of my ziploc liquids bag for sperate inspection. Not sure why, but they insisted.
This was in Athens where they expect to see olive oil and in fact ask whether you have any with you. I saw larger bottles disallowed, to much consternation.
Of course, entering the US with GE, I answered the food question affirmatively, which sent me to secondary. Where the inspector asked if I had any meat or fresh veggies or fruit, which I didn't, and waved me on by.

Bringing Duty-Free Liquids into USA with a Connecting Flight

Inbound International Flights

You may carry duty free liquids in secure, tamperevident bags, more than 3.4 oz or 100 ml in your carry-on bag if:

  • The duty free liquids were purchased internationally and you are traveling to the United States with a connecting flight.
  • The liquids are packed in a transparent, secure, tamper-evident bag by the retailer and do not show signs of tampering when presented to TSA for screening.
  • The original receipt for the liquids is present and the purchase was made within 48 hours.

The items inside the secure, tamper-evident bags must be screened and cleared. Any item that alarms or is unable to be screened will not be permitted in your carry-on bag. We recommend packing all liquids, gels, and aerosols that are over 3.4 oz or 100 ml in your checked baggage, even if they are in a secure, tamper-evident bag.

This would be flying nationally (within the USA). And this was not bought at an airport, and they have not been opened.

As said above if the bottles are over 100 ml you should check the bottles. Otherwise you will have to toss them if they are in your carryon.

They are 250mL each. They are sealed. So I can't take them with me then? The bottles are clear, and you can see into them.

Doesn't matter. They exceed 100ml so you can't carry them on. They have to be in checked bags .

On our last trip, TSA agent at SEA, was holding up an oil gift pack and water bottle, pointing out that a passenger lost an expensive gift that should have been in checked luggage. Was that yours?
