Bringing a large picture frame through security: allowed?

I'd like to take my diploma on an upcoming flight; it's 22" x 16" and will be boxed, making it even larger.

Will the TSA allow it through security?

I checked tsa.gov and don't see that framed pictures are prohibited, and there is a requirement that sharp items be covered, so I'm thinking that this will work, but does anyone have experience?

Thanks.

yes it's allowed provided that it will fit through the x-ray. i would just package it well and put it in a bin during the x-ray to keep the luggage pile up at the end from crushing it.

we had some glass panels cut for nightstand table tops and carried them on. they were packaged well in cardboard and taped shut. no issues with TSA.

on board, i think we asked the FA to put in a coat storage so it wouldn't be crushed in the overhead.

Also has to meet airline's requirements for carry on, for example, for AA:

You can bring one small carry-on bag plus one personal item per passenger as long as the carry-on bag fits comfortably in the sizer without being forced and does not exceed overall dimensions of 45 inches (length + width + height).

The maximum dimensions cannot exceed any of the following measurements: 22" long x 14" wide x 9" tall or 115cm (56 x 36 x 23 cm). All carry-on items should be stowed in an overhead bin.

I had a friend fly Houston-DC-Syracuse NY yesterday with a pic-in-frame and he had no problems on UA. Similar size. YMMV

I have a large glass picture frame that is boxed at 30" x 30" x 2.5" and contemplating as to how to bring it back from HKG to US. i'm looking at handcarrying. currently, i'm routed on a PMCO 772 in biz and then a Q300 from EWR -> IAD.

I've been able to find a thread with similar thoughts here:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/unite...rt-united.html

from what I've been able to glean so far, i'm looking at the following questions:
1) Can the item make it through security - at HKG, or at EWR?
2) Can the item be stored on a 772 / Q300?

with the current itin, if i can a) get it through security at HKG, and b) get this loaded into the cabin on the 772, i could theoretically just dump the UX segment at EWR and rent a car or train it back down to WAS. another thought would be to try to switch routings (+ potentially lose an UG on the TPAC seg) and try 772/747 + domestic mainline. either way, i'm looking at reclearing with the item with US TSA and then dealing with another cabin crew.
