Do I need to cancel a re-entry permit?

I previously applied for a re-entry permit a year or so ago but never left the country (Decided to go to a different college). They did confirm mailing it to me but I never actually got the document. At the same time, I didn't track it down because I had already decided I wouldn't need it.

Flash forward, I'm abroad on a 3 month trip and hope to return home in a few weeks. Would this non-use of a re-entry permit come to bite me in the ...? I never actually left the country previously. Should I make an effort to cancel it?

I'm an American PR and I've been in the US for the past 20 years.

You're a perm res in the US? That means you can stay out of the US six months (less one day) at a time. So long as you're inside that time-frame you'll be good. CBP might ask about it, but you can just tell them that it never arrived and you didn't need it for the trip.

Theres no stamp on my passport about when I actually left the states though...Would that affect anything? I just have stamps on when I entered Amsterdam and etc. I mean, how would they actually know I was only gone for 3 months vs. 6 months?

I literally checked in at the airport and left. The airline looked at my passport but no one scanned it.

Sorry for the ignorance btw. Border control tends to shake me up.

Airlines supply the info to CBP automatically so you should be good to go. Or come back, as the case may be.

Would it look bad if I came home for a weekend and then left to go back to school for the next month? My class is 3 months long. I just need to come home for a home/school activity...
