I sincerely hope that her views are not espoused by the majority of Americans. Unfortunately I suspect that they are.....

There's a large segment of the population that believes anything they hear from anchors on CBS. Remember that CBS has a particular political point of view, and that it would fight tooth-and-nail if there is even a hint of infringement on the First Amendment. Too bad it doesn't also believe in supporting the fourth amendment to the same degree.
Perhaps the tune would change if DHS started using TSA-style tactics against media reporting, including pre-approval of the right to write stories.

I have rarely given much heed to anything Couric has said and am not going to start to consider her thoughts valid now. The reasons for her being considered an authority on anything escape me.

"Peer" pressure on the sheeple. So very many people--women, especially--are afraid of making waves. "Well, if Katie says, then it's OK" appears to be the idea.

This is the woman who elected to have a colonoscopy live on the air, right? Not someone I would expect to complain about invasive TSA searches. Actually she's a rather comical apologist for TSA based on that history.*
Clearly she has no sense of personal privacy/space, and that's certainly her right and choice, but no-thank-you to the idea of imposing that on the rest of us.
(*I'm not against colon-cancer awareness, but there are a lot of ways to achieve that outside of what she chose to do.)

Barbara Walters may be the all-time champion in that department, but Katie's much prettier (in a cutesie kind of way).
