Yet another EWR TSO arrested

They're dropping like flies!

TSA officer charged with impersonating police officer during Roselle Park traffic stop

A Transportation Security Administration supervisor assigned to Newark Liberty International Airport was arrested last week on charges of impersonating a law enforcement officer, after authorities say he told a Roselle Park patrolman who had pulled him over that he was a cop, too.

This is a good sign. I think it means that regular law enforcement has had it with the TSA's defiling cop costumes with their illegal, unethical behavior.

It can't be good for legitimate law enforcement to have people in cop costumes abusing citizens.

My experience is that Roselle Park cops were jerks, and that's an insult to jerks.

However, I'll buy them a round after telling this blue shirt what the law really is.

Yup. Only the cops have the right to abuse the citizenry. They resent the competition. What's funny is TSOs and cops are almost exactly the same kind of people. I wonder what makes one become a cop and the other a TSO. I would guess that getting a job as a bona fide LEO is *much* harder. Maybe the TSOs are just lazier or too cowardly to genuinely risk their lives against genuinely scary people who actually carry guns. Ooh!

FWIW I don't think it really means anything. More of turf war than anything. I would guess that the vast majority of cops are extremely pro-TSA, pro any kind of authority really. They still side with the TSA in virtually any dispute between a TSO and a "civilian" (or whatever it is that the cops call us). They just aren't going to tolerate this "professional courtesy" crap.

I'm of two minds on this given the general asshattery of certain law enforcement types. I'll point to Beacon, NY, which can't seem to learn from the last seven years of federal lawsuits.

A TSO washed out on the psych evaluation, which takes talent given there are books written on how to fake the psych test.

Davis said Mazzone’s "continued employment will be determined based on the result of TSA’s ongoing inquiry into his actions and the result of the pending case."
Just what does it take to get fired from TSA?

Second point, how in hades does the FSD for this airport keep his job?

No accountability at any level.

Get listed as a Level 1 sex offender. Which is why New Hampshire is trying to pass a new law.

That might be a hiring plus for a TSA screener!

Actually, it doesn't take much. I know of a TSO who got let go for taking 62 cents out of a bin that a passenger left behind. But theft is theft and he deserved to be shown the door for that.

As far as the FSD goes, your guess is as good as mine on that one.

Well this didn't happen at the airport, so IHMO it's not such a big deal.

But another one brings a gun to work, and only gets a slap on the wrist

TSO are Law Enforcement - NOT!

Another example of power gone to the head:td:

TSA officer charged with impersonating police officer during Roselle Park traffic stop

Don’t say you’re a cop if you’re not, especially to someone who is. And that goes for federal security officers.

Michael Mazzone, 27, of Roselle Park, a lead transportation security officer employed by the TSA since 2006... was arrested Wednesday, March 2, on a charge of "pretending to hold a position as a sworn law enforcement officer.
HA HA HA HA HA

The arrest occurred only days before another mishap for the TSA’s Newark Liberty detachment: A security checkpoint in Terminal C was shut down for 10 minutes Sunday afternoon after a carry-on bag raised a red flag during a X-ray, but the wrong bag was physically searched, officials said.
