"Let’s Stop Panicking Over Half-Assed Terrorists Already"

Caught up on some reading, over the holidays.

Dir of NCC says let's do some rethinking of the paradigm:

http://www.wired.com/dangerroom/2010...st-dont-panic/

Ultimately, Leiter said, it’ll be the “quiet, confident resilience” of Americans after a terrorist attack that will “illustrate ultimately the futility of terrorism.” That doesn’t mean not to hit back: Leiter quickly added that “we will hold those accountable [and] we will be ready to respond to those attacks.” But it does mean recognizing, he said, that “we help define the success of an attack by our reaction to that attack.” [/I]

Which leads to a story from late '04 about AQ goal to bankrupt the US:

http://articles.cnn.com/2004-11-01/w...in?_s=PM:WORLD

"All that we have to do is to send two mujahedeen to the furthest point east to raise a piece of cloth on which is written al Qaeda, in order to make generals race there to cause America to suffer human, economic and political losses without their achieving anything of note other than some benefits for their private corporations," bin Laden said.

yes, "death by a thousand cuts". bragging that a printer cartridge bomb costing a few dollars to make would result (and will) in the cost of billions spent by US to counter it.

the sad part is, those running the show know this and are content because it means they can sell yet more goods and services to the US. Even if it is all paid for by funny money, the companies in the "security" business will get a temporary benefit. The only counters to this trend will be a growing rejection of it on the part of a slowly clued in public and the monetary crisis that looks to be coming to a head in 2011.

When in danger, when in doubt,
run in circles, scream and shout
