Corkscrew allowed in carry-on?

FLying tomorrow, and I am planning to bring a corkscrew with me.
No plans to check bags.
Looked on TSA site & this is not listed as a banned item.
Is it?

The corkscrew is one of those foldable ones that has a small serrated blade that is used to cut the wrap around the cork. The blade itself is maybe 1/2" long.

Think they'll let it through?

Will it be more or less likely to get through if I set off the metal detector? I have a pacemaker. It rarely sets off the Detector. It did one time recently however. I think it depends on the settings of the machine.

I fear with that combination I am asking for a full scale grope.

Just because it's not on the banned list doesn't mean they won't confiscate. A niece of mine had a hair pin confiscated once (granted it was 4-5 inches long and would've made a nice weapon).

It is possible they won't see it buried in a bag, but if they do I think you will have it confiscated; if not for the corkscrew itself, for the foil blade.

The foil blade is probably against the rules. I don't think tripping the WTMD would be grounds for a bag search, but you never know with TSA's warped logic.

If you want to keep your corkscrew I wouldn't bring it along. I've seen them confiscated at checkpoints.

We always travel with a corkscrew. They take them about half the time.

We have had significantly better luck with the two prong one that slides along the side of the cork, for whatever reason they just don't have a clue what it is.

Bring one you don't care about losing and buy another cheap one if you need to once you arrive.

Maybe they should set up some type of sharing, if they take mine, I should be able to pick up one they took from somebody else once I land at that airport.

My coworker has talked to me about this before. Apparently she has a plastic cork screw.

Also, she said that pretty much every hotel she stays in (think Hampton Inn) has one at the front desk.

I know people who've lost them when they had the blade. That was a while ago, though.

I certainly hope you are not one of those crazed, drunken terrorist intent on corkscrewing the crew to death and taking over the airplanes alcohol supply?

This is a very real threat in the eyes of some TSOs who will feel they have every right to confiscate this item to protect you from yourself.

I've had them confiscated, even without the blades, so I wouldn't bring it.

We just returned from Hawaii and realized after 2 flights (JFK to HNL and HNL to KOA) that we had a corkscrew (the old-school with out a foil cutter) in our carryon. We thought about tossing it, but since no one made a fuss, we kept it.

Not one question at any of the four security screenings.
