If tyranny and oppression come to this land, it will be in the guise of fighting a foreign enemy. (James Madison) How can people put their children through this? 1. Please write your congressmen and women and other representatives, like house members and governors. (I have sent 30-40 myself) 2. Write the airlines - they're losing customers FAST. ( I sent letters to 10 airlines) 3. Write to tourist destinations, like Hotels, Disney, etc., and express your discontent. 4. Support ACLU.org (who is actually doing the right thing) Express your support by email or send them money to help the fight. Make sure to fill out their on-line form if you are terrorized at the airport. 5. Support Epic.org who has brought suit against DHS/TSA about this issue. Express your support by email or send them money to help the fight. Just like voting - you may not think you individual vote matters, but when they get thousands or 10's of thousands of letters, they will start to pay attention. Remember opt-out day. Some of the press think it was a flop, but it exceeded our wildest dreams. It got the word out to MILLIONS of people, made every TX & Radio show, and hit every newspaper in the country. TSA even played nice on NOOD, to try to reduce the howl. A growing number of Americans are more afraid of their own government (TSA) than they are of terrorists. WTH?? We need another campaign as effective as NOOD - any suggestions? |

Of all the horror stories you have heard so far, what would be your last straw, "cuff me" moment?
Mine is "take off your pants/skirt/dress." Call the bailbondsman! Tipped all the way over when I flew last; the breast exam even though I didn't set off the WMTD was my last straw. |
Tipping point was when they forced removal of shoes/sandals that could not possibly pose a threat. Watching them enforce more idiotic rules than I can count and watching stupid passengers lap it all up. Looking at an airline ticket that has more taxes than a rental car receipt. I have a hard time understanding why tipping point is being discussed during November 2010.
And where is Spiff? Did he drop out of posting on this forum? |
Hello everyone. I am new to these forums, which I found while reading about the scanners for the past few days, getting more and more outraged.
I am going to fly as little as I possibly can. I plan to cancel my ticket home to Ohio this Christmas if things are not resolved and make the 18 hour drive instead. This is ridiculous and wrong on so many levels. Unfortunately, there are some places that are such a long drive away that you don't have the vacation time to make the drive. I really hope in that case that I don't get "randomly" selected. |
My tipping point was reading about all the BS and then hearing what a friend of mine had to go through when she was traveling alone. She started the conversation with "I so wish I had you with me on the last trip" and then told me about the idiocy both coming and going. My fight or flight switch is permanently stuck on fight and I am not a sweet delicate little angel....more like a Panzer with PMS.
Unfortunately I have to travel to visit DH's side of the family for xmas, we'll see if my temper can be kept in check to even make it on the plane. |
As someone who has been flying more or less weekly for the past decade, my only thought is what a bunch of whiners we have become. So we have to remove our shoes, dump our bottles of water, and endure the occasional nude-o-scope or rough pat down. This constitutes a Stasi-like security state??? I can't recall the last time the security experience took more than an hour and was anything but tedious at worst.
I seriously hope more whiners decide not to fly, as it means shorter security lines for me and a higher UG percentage. Sheesh... |

If you do know anyone like this, are they as stoic about the process as you are? |

I didn't whine when I had to remove my shoes or dump my water, knowing full well all were strictly for show, but you sure as hell will hear me yell at the top of my lungs when a TSO grabs my breasts or sticks their hands in my pants just so I can prove my innocence. The problem here is where does it end or how much worse will it get when a terrorist attempts to conceal a bomb in a body cavity...rectal exams to fly? You'll be whining when that happens.

Touching my breasts or genitals. Sorry TSA, but those parts of my body are reserved for me and my husband.
Touching the breasts or genitals of ANY children or teenagers, no matter whose kids they are, is going to get a loud protest from me if I am nearby and witness it. |

So that's your point? You hope more folks stay at home so life is better for you? Then I would think you would welcome an increase in rigorous screening.

If you do know anyone like this, are they as stoic about the process as you are? As to those who are disabled, I have seen many, many folks in wheelchairs and/or otherwise encumbered, and all of them seemed to be treated with at least as much respect and dignity as the rest of the flying public. Is a $12 per hour high school dropout TSA agent doing anything to stop "terrorism"? Likely not, but are they really violating anyone with their silly dog and pony show? Nope. Either deal with it or travel by alternate, much less convenient means. |
