Techdirt: "TSA's Failure Based On The Myth Of Perfect Security"

Rather well-written article, discussing the political process behind no one wanting to be seen as weak on security, after the next (inevitable?) event.

Don't know how many times I've brought that very subject up here. "Weak on crime". "Weak on drugs". "Weak on communism". The mud flies at every opportunity. I'm quite sure the leftwing people so supportive of this burgeoning tyranny are trying to ensure the opposition can't throw that mud. Very curious bedfellows on this issue. Michael Chertoff and Media Matters? Huh?

Why can't we find someone 'smart on security'????? What's the problem? Why do government agencies attract such imcompetents like Nappy and PissyPants?

I'd rather have a policy that is 'weak' on security but SMART on security.

I nominate: Bruce Schneier http://www.schneier.com/

TSA already endorses him as an expert in some capacity by linking to his blog from the TSA blog.

The American public gets what they are comfortable with.
When you have millions saying "Anything is OK if I am safe", then that is what they get, "anything", even if it is useless and ineffective.

When enough people start engaging their brain, and asking the real questions, then maybe things will change. But as most people don't care what happens to the other guy, I don't see any hope.

Time to really put officials on the spot and quit taking their stock answers as an answer.

VP Biden and wife on Larry King is prime example. Take a look, and see how sickening both their (VP and Jill) remarks are.
